An Egyptian platform opens global doors for handicrafts.

In this context, Engineer Taghreed Refai Abdelsalam launched a digital platform aimed at marketing and exporting Egyptian handmade products to the Middle Eastern and European markets. This step aims to support female artisans and open new horizons for them beyond the local market.

The idea originated when Taghreed noticed the struggles of a large number of women who possess genuine skills in producing handicrafts but face significant difficulties in marketing their products or reaching new customers. Thus, according to Taghreed, the problem is not the product's quality, but rather the lack of effective marketing channels, coupled with the exclusion of some artisans from major exhibitions due to their lack of commercial registers or official entities, despite having products of high artistic value!

The initiative did not stop at merely launching a digital platform; it extended to organizing partially funded exhibitions, allowing women to showcase their products for nominal fees. This is an attempt to reduce their financial burdens and grant them the opportunity for direct interaction with the public.

Preliminary data indicates that the platform includes over 20,000 exhibitors, with women representing the majority. It has also successfully executed its first export operation of Egyptian handmade products abroad, reflecting a real demand for these products in international markets.

The initiative relies on the fundamental idea that Egyptian handicrafts, despite their historical and artistic value, sometimes do not receive adequate appreciation within the local market, whereas they are more widely accepted by consumers abroad who appreciate the handmade and heritage nature of these products. Hence, the platform seeks to bridge this gap by directing products to markets more willing to pay a fair value, thereby contributing to increasing the artisans' income and motivating them to continue producing.

Despite the technical capabilities available to implement the project, the most prominent challenge remains reaching the largest possible number of women across different governorates, especially in rural areas, alongside the need for institutional support that contributes to expanding the project's scope.

Observers believe that such initiatives play a dual role. It is not limited to the economic empowerment of women but also extends to preserving traditional Egyptian crafts from extinction, such as embroidery, handmade carpets, copperwork, and pottery. At a time when the Egyptian state is moving towards enhancing women's role in development within the Egypt 2030 vision, these models appear as a practical step on the ground. They translate plans and strategies into real opportunities that can change the lives of thousands of women.

Between ambition and challenges, such initiatives remain an indicator that women's economic empowerment requires not just decisions, but effective tools that reach those who truly deserve them.
